A Blog May or May Not
be the Answer for your Business

If you are going to use your site to simply offer information about your business, a blog (also know as a weblog) is the least complicated type of website. You can also use a “basic” website that you can build yourself from scratch.

What is a Weblog

A weblog is usually maintained by an individual or business with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. It can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content. They are also used to provide commentary or news on a particular subject, others function as more personal online diaries.

Typically a weblog combines text, images, and links to other web logs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic. An important part of a weblog is the ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format. Most weblogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (artlog), photographs (photoblog), sketches (sketchblog), videos (vlog), music (MP3blog), audio (podcasting), which are part of a wider network of social media.

Purpose of a Business Weblog

A business or corporate weblog is either used internally to enhance the communication and culture within a company or externally for marketing, branding or public relations purposes.

Easy, Quick, Inexpensive to Create

While a weblog is very easy, quick and inexpensive to create, one disadvantage is the need to regularly update it with fresh information to maintain visitor interest. Also, some experts believe a weblog is not the best approach for small businesses from a profitability point of view since they usually don’t make much money. They suggest that building a business website or an ecommerce store is the better route to take.

At the end of the day, it is you who will make the decision whether to blog or develop a website based on your business goals and needs.
